The 'cheapest' price is rarely the real price
Most of the cheapest Mounjaro headlines are built on a trick. The number in big letters is a first-month price, or a 2.5 mg starter price, or a rate that only holds if you sign up for a subscription you can't easily cancel.
Then the small print does the heavy lifting. A consultation fee here. A prescription charge there. Cold-chain delivery, needles, and a sharps bin added on top. By checkout, your bargain pen isn't a bargain any more.
I've watched this play out. A patient came to us after another provider advertised Wegovy from £99, then added a hidden £45 assessment fee, a £15 prescription charge, and £10 for delivery at checkout. The £99 pen became £169.

A genuine pen can't be dirt cheap, and here's why
This is the bit most price-comparison pages skip. A real Mounjaro pen has a cost floor, and it is structural rather than greedy.
First, the cold chain. The medicine has to stay between 2°C and 8°C from the pharmacy to your door. That means insulated Woolcool packaging and gel ice packs on every delivery, not a jiffy bag.
Second, the humans. A GMC-registered clinician reviews your medical history before anything is dispensed. A GPhC-registered pharmacy then checks and sends it. Neither step is free, and both are what stop a pen with someone else's name on it landing on your doormat.
That is the trade-off the bargain-basement websites are making for you, without asking. If a price looks too good to be true, check the GPhC register before you spend a penny. I would rather you find that out now than in the small print after your card has been charged.
When cheap crosses the line into dangerous
Here is where I stop being polite. The MHRA has warned about counterfeit weight-loss pens being sold online. Some are fakes. Some are genuine pens that have sat in a warm warehouse or a stranger's kitchen drawer.
The danger is not the medicine itself. It is the missing screening. A legitimate prescriber asks about your medical history before writing anything. A dodgy website asks for your card details and a photo of your face.
Mounjaro is not for everyone. If you have had pancreatitis or certain thyroid conditions, it is off the table. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, same. Only a proper clinical assessment catches that. Buy cheap and unregulated, and nobody is checking.

How to actually pay less for Mounjaro, safely
So you want Mounjaro without overpaying. Fair enough. Here is the honest version.
First, compare the all-in monthly cost, not the headline. Two prices that look £40 apart often end up £2 apart once consultation fees and delivery are added. Ask what is included.
Second, consider the three-month starter pack. It saves £20 and sorts your first three doses in one go. Fewer deliveries, less fuss, one less thing to remember.
Third, check whether you qualify for NHS treatment. Wegovy is available on the NHS for some people who meet strict criteria, while Mounjaro for weight loss is generally private. If you do not meet the bar, a private clinic with flat pricing is the honest option.
And if Mounjaro is genuinely out of reach, Wegovy is a cheaper alternative that starts at £129.99 a month. It targets one hormone instead of two, so average weight loss is lower, up to 14.9% versus 20.9% for Mounjaro. Still a real, regulated option.
The people who get burned are not the ones who compare carefully. They are the ones who chase the lowest number and skip the one question that actually matters: is this safe?
